The principle of operation of the Destructors is based on the filtration combustion of carbon-containing materials in a counterflow mode.
Filtration combustion refers to the propagation of exothermic transformation waves in a porous medium during gas filtration. The propagation of an exothermic transformation wave in a mixture of condensed fuel with an inert component during the oxidant filtering through it leads to the so-called “super-adiabatic” heating. They arise due to the fact that the generated heat is not carried away with the reaction products, but is concentrated in the combustion zone, which allows a significant increase in the temperature in it.
